About Everyday Horology
At Everyday Horology, we bring clarity and care to every watch we evaluate and service, blending expert knowledge with a passion for precision.
My Story...
I have been a watchmaker for over 25 years. My path into watchmaking is somewhat unconventional, and it has shaped the way I approach both the craft and the people I serve. I consider myself a watchmaker for everyone.
I began my career as a salesman before becoming an apprentice. My training started with clocks, where the larger components allowed me to develop a foundational understanding of mechanical systems. From there, I moved into pocket watches—an entry into true micro-precision—and eventually into wristwatches and smaller timepieces.
Although I trained as an apprentice, much of my development has been self-directed. I studied the essential watchmaking texts and spent thousands of hours practicing before ever working on a customer’s watch. Since then, I have evaluated, repaired, and restored thousands of timepieces.
Over time, I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of clients, including serious collectors of rare and historically significant watches. At the same time, I have always believed that every watch—and every owner—deserves the same level of respect and care. I do not work on or evaluate counterfeit watches, but beyond that, I approach a $20 watch and a $600,000 watch with the same mindset: honesty, clarity, and practical judgment.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that knowing what not to do is just as important as knowing what to do. I have created custom timepieces, though I found that the time required made it difficult to pursue that work commercially. One such piece involved fabricating a sterling silver dial, creating a case, crafting a custom leather band, and modifying an existing caliber—over 250 hours of work. Rather than sell it, I chose to give it to a friend.
I do not do everything, and I believe that is an important part of doing things well. There are certain repairs—and aspects of repairs—that others are better equipped to handle. I do not restore dials, preferring to leave that work to dedicated dial restoration specialists. I do not manufacture hairsprings or mainsprings; I source them. I complete most other repair work myself, but I am mindful of my limitations. Over the years, I have developed a network of highly skilled technicians and craftsmen who can handle nearly any specialized need—from cutting custom gears for one-of-a-kind watches to more modern, aesthetic modifications such setting gemstones and diamonds for custom bling.
Through years of hands-on experience and conversations with knowledgeable collectors, I have developed a broad and balanced perspective on watches—what to buy, when to buy, and why. While I can be opinionated, I do not have strong brand loyalties. My focus is always on helping people make informed, practical decisions.
At my core, I am both an educator and a communicator. Everyday Horology is an extension of that—an effort to share what I have learned and to help people better understand their watches. Above all, I treat people, and their timepieces, with the respect they deserve.
